PHIRNĀ, BHĀĪ, a Bahil Khatrī, was a pious Sikh of the time of Gurū Arjan. He once waited upon the Gurū to receive his blessing. The Gurū, as says Bhāī Santokh Siṅgh, Srī Gur Pratāp Sūrāj Granth, instructed him always to remember God and repeat Vāhigurū, the name revealed by Gurū Nānak. According to Bhāī Gurdās, Vārāṅ, X1. 20, Bhāī Phirnā practised nām and gained what he had desired.
