DVĀRKĀ DĀS, BĀBĀ, great-grandson of Gurū Amar Dās, lived in his ancestral town of Goindvāl, in Amritsar district. Gurū Har Rāi was his guest, when the Mughal prince, Dārā Shukoh, defeated in the battle of Sāmūgaṛh crossed the River Beās and called on him in June 1658. In 1664, when, after the death of Gurū Har Krishan at Delhi, Mātā Bassī, grandmother of the deceased Gurū, came to Bakālā with tokens of succession to be bestowed on Gurū Tegh Bahādur, she sent for Bābā Dvārkā Dās to be present at the ceremony which took place on 11 August 1664. Bābā Dvārkā Dās thereupon retired to his home at Goindvāl.
