<p class="C1">&#65279JONES, a deserter from the East India Company's service, joined Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh's army as a gunner. According to Charles Masson, the traveller, Jones participated in the final battle of Mult&#257n in 1818 and took charge of the guns, enabling the Ak&#257l&#299s to storm the fort.</p>
