<p class="C1">&#65279LANE, STEPHEN, an American, who served for some years in Scindia's army rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He joined Mah&#257r&#257j&#257 Ra&#7751j&#299t Si&#7749gh's army in 1834, and was entrusted with the command of a battalion. Being an habitual drunkard, he was dismissed from service after about 18 months and deported to Ludhi&#257&#7751&#257.</p>
