<p class="C1">&#65279MAH&#256DEV, B&#256B&#256 (1560-1605), the second son of Gur&#363 R&#257m D&#257s (1534-81) and M&#257t&#257 Bh&#257n&#299, was born on l June 1560 at Goindv&#257l, in present-day Amritsar district of the Punjab. As he grew up, he displayed little interest in worldly affairs and remained  occupied in meditation. According  to Bh&#257&#299 Gurd&#257s, <i>V&#257r&#257&#7749</i>, XXV.33, he, for a time, turned against Gur&#363 Arjan at the instigation of his elder brother, Prith&#299 Chand.</p>
<p class="C1">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;	B&#257b&#257 M&#257h&#257dev died at Goindv&#257l on 4 Bh&#257do&#7749 1662 Bk/3 August 1605.</p>
